Delhi Tourist Places by Metro: 3 Practical Routes

The Metro solves Delhi’s long transfers, but it does not turn distant monuments into neighbours. The useful approach is to choose one geographic route, check the right station exit and use a short walk or auto only for the last mile.

Pick one geographic route
Check station exits before arrival
Keep last-mile time in the plan
Avoid peak commuter periods when possible

The practical plan

1

Route 1 — Old Delhi core

Use the Metro to reach the Red Fort, Jama Masjid and Chandni Chowk area, then continue largely on foot or by cycle-rickshaw. This is a full half day once security, crowds, food and unplanned lane discoveries are counted.

2

Route 1 — what not to add

Do not leave Old Delhi for Qutub Minar and return for dinner. If the area feels overwhelming, shorten the market section rather than adding another cross-city landmark.

3

Route 2 — central Delhi

Group Connaught Place, Janpath, Bangla Sahib and the India Gate or Kartavya Path area. The Metro covers the main approach, but the final distances and security diversions can still require walking or a short ride.

4

Route 2 — build an indoor break

A museum or a long lunch can protect the middle of a hot day. Check current opening days before making a museum the anchor of the route.

5

Route 3 — southern monuments

Pair Humayun’s Tomb with the surrounding Nizamuddin area or Sunder Nursery, or build a separate Mehrauli route around Qutub Minar. Treat those as two different southern clusters, not one quick loop.

6

Tickets and the Tourist Card

DMRC offers several ticketing methods, including Tourist Cards for unlimited travel within their stated validity and network rules. Compare the current official terms with ordinary QR or stored-value options before buying.

Common questions

Can I see Old Delhi and Qutub Minar on the same day?

You can, but the transfer divides the day. Most first-time visitors get more value by keeping Old Delhi together and using a separate south Delhi block.

Is the Airport Express included in the Tourist Card?

DMRC states that Tourist Card travel excludes the Airport Express Line. Verify the current terms on the official ticket page before purchase.

Is the Metro comfortable with luggage?

It can be efficient outside busy periods, but stations, security checks and interchanges make large bags inconvenient. A direct transfer may be simpler.
